It is highly unlikely that a person travelling to another country will travel without some good amount of luggage. And chances are it will be much more than just a single piece of handbag. More often than not, travellers have to carry with them several pieces of luggage and will have to check-in most of it.

Checked Luggage: What is it?
The luggage that a traveller hands over to the airlines before boarding the aircraft is called Checked Luggage. The Checked Luggage will then be in the custody of the airlines and the passenger’s luggage will travel in the cargo compartment of the same aircraft. The checked luggage should be as per the airlines Luggage Allowance Limit.
What is Luggage Allowance?
The luggage allowance corresponds the number/pieces of luggage a traveller can check in while travelling and the corresponding weight of the luggage.
Most of the airlines have maximum weight limits for their luggage. Extra Luggage can be checked-in for which you will have to pay an extra amount – This varies from airline to airline.
The weight limits of airlines can vary from each other; some airlines allow 32kg of weight limit on individual baggage. However most of them have a limit of 23 kg per person.
What Items are prohibited from being carried in Checked Luggage?
The list of items is of a non-exhaustive nature; the airline might take the final call and act according to its rules in case an item that concerns security or any other such reason.
However, broadly no airline will allow the following items to be carried either in the cargo or with the passenger as cabin luggage:
#1. Explosive Materials
It goes without saying that it is strictly prohibited to carry with you any kind of explosive material. You cannot carry Flare Guns, Gun Lighters and Gun Powder, Blasting caps, Dynamite, Fireworks, Flares (in any form), Hand Grenades, Plastic Explosives not only this, realistic replicas of any sort of explosives is also strictly prohibited.
#2. Compressed Gases
Gases which are deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous are prohibited to be carried in checked luggage. The examples of gases you cannot carry are Butane, Oxygen, Liquid nitrogen and Aqualung cylinders
#3. Flammable Items
Flammable items like Aerosol will not be allowed except for those present in personal care products and toiletries. Even those will be allowed in limited quantities. Any form of fuel, be it cooking fuel or any other liquid fuel will not be allowed to be carried in your checked luggage. A few other things which are prohibited are Gasoline, Gas Torches, Lighter Fluid, Strike-Anywhere Matches, Turpentine & Paint Thinner, Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries.
#4. Oxidizing Materials
Any sort of oxidising materials or agents are strictly prohibited, you cannot carry with you bleaching powder and/or bleach peroxides.
#5. Poisonous substances
Poisonous substances such as pesticides, insecticides and weed-killers cannot be carried in you checked luggage during your journey
Any form of acid, alkalis, wet batteries except those in wheelchairs, oven and drain cleaners cannot be carried in checked luggage.
#7. Other Harmful articles
Other harmful substances like radioactive materials, offensive and irritating material like suitcases with alarms and anything that can harm or cause discomfort to others will be prohibited to be carried in checked luggage.
